Our Nordic Roots - Gail Mathews

Champion Count: Now 102! Congratulations Ch. Nordic's Take A Chance On Me HH

Gail's 100th Champion, Goddess, is pictured here.
Our lives were forever changed when we met Gail Mathews of Nordic Samoyeds and we bought our first sammy, "Soryk." Soon after, we acquired our Echo, who earned a Championship and a CDX! We had begun on a journey that will last our entire lives. Not only did Gail share with us her knowledge and her dogs, she shared herself. She and her husband Dick soon became much loved friends. Gail has bred or owned 100 champions, including a National Specialty Best of Breed. Am. and Can. Ch. Nordic's Wynter Sunniglo, better known as "Sunni," was also an all breed Best in Show winner. Gail also bred Ch. Nordic's Kismet O'Cynosura, whom we co-owned, and who was the 1990 National Specialty Winners Bitch. Kismet was dam to many champions. Her first litter of 9 yielded six champions, including BISS Am. Can. Champion Nordic's Blue Ice Hobby Horse. Kismet had 2 more litters, both yielding more champions, and entitling her to a ROMC. We congratulate Gail on her success as a breeder and exhibitor, and thank her from the bottom of our hearts for all she had meant to us through the years. The pictures on this page are just a few of the many memories. We look forward to making many more.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to Gail and Dick Mathews on the sudden loss of Gail's mother, Betty Anderson, a long-time Samoyed fancier, on November 14, 2005. Betty was with us in Kentucky at the 2005 SCA specialty, and a Lifetime member of SCA. We remember her with great fondness.
Here we are dropping off "Nahani" at our favorite "midway" meeting point in Indiana. That's Gail in the middle, and her good friend Brigid Brandt who has enjoyed years of showing with Gail. We are holding "Fancy," These puppies are granddaughters of our Caper, and great grandaughters of Icy.
Don Hodges, of Kipperic Samoyeds, handled Sunni to his memorable win at the National Specialty.
